Wye Oak – Why Not? (with lyrics)

Civilian by Wye Oak

I am nothing without pretend
I know my thoughts
Can’t live with them
I am nothing without a man
I know my thoughts
But I can’t hide them

I still keep my baby teeth
In the bedside table with my jewelry
You still sleep in the bed with me,
My jewelry, and my baby teeth

I don’t need another friend
When most of them
I can barely keep up with them
Perfectly able to hold my own hair,
But I still can’t kiss my own neck

I wanted to give you everything
But I still stand in awe of superficial things
I wanted to love you like my mother’s mother’s mothers did

My thoughts: awesome two member band that should be hugely popular.  Check out their back catalog, latest web-comment below, and this song from their coming album:

Wye Oak – Civilian

We just announced a new record last week.  It’s called “Civilian,” and it’s being released in early March of 2011.  Merge Records will take care of it in the US and City Slang in Europe and the UK.  We’re working on Australia and Japan too, I’m very excited to say.  The title track for the record is floating around the internet in MP3 form, so go have a listen.

In related news, we’re gearing up for an absurd amount of touring in 2011.  Some of the dates have already been announced, including about 10 shows in the Northeast with The Decemberists, a short jaunt over to the UK and Europe in January, and a big ol’ headling tour all over the United States, by way of the SXSW festival.

Many thanks to all of the wonderful people who we shared good times with in 2010.  Happy holidays.

  1. I think it goes:
I am nothing without a man,
I know my thoughts, but I can hide them.

Perfectly able to hold my own
but I still can’t kiss my own neck
