Trails And Ways – Tereza & More (Review)
I’m hearing some Prefab Sprout on the song Midnight City & No Wisdom from their Bandcamp album, Temporal. Excellent clip-clip-clip, staccato like percussion throughout. See if you hear this on Animal from their Territorial EP. Their new song Tereza has a cool deep and throbbing bass line not unlike The Cure (is the samba your scene?). The vocals are not dominant, providing context for the driving and gorgeously hypnotic soundscape. I want more—Now! So I’m digging into their free 2011 albums on offer from Trails and Ways Bandcamp pages.
TRAILS AND WAYS make bossanova dream pop from a bedroom studio in Oakland, CA. While living in Brazil, songwriter/guitarist/keyboardist KBB got deep into samba and bossanova, and came back with a vision—bringing together the hypnotic flow of bossanova, the direct power of american noise folk, and the ocean texture of dream pop. Ian Quirk on the drums and production. Emma Oppen on bass, also sings and writes. Hannah van Loon plays electric guitar, violin, and synths. They released two six-song EPs, Territorial and Temporal, in 2011.
