James Vincent McMorrow – Early In The Morning
Let’s get this off (or on the table) to start: I love all things Celtic. This album by “James Vincent McMorrow” is far from “Riverdance” or even “The Waterboys“, being more in line—in attitude and soul—with Mr. Damien Rice. Mr. McMorrow has his own sound and it abounds with urgency and desire; longing for resolution and finally, something solid to trust and hold tightly to. This is a must listen to artist for 2011 and I urge you to check out the NPR Tiny Desk Concert and download the free audio with the links below.
J.V.McM. — This Old Dark Machine
McMorrow is currently on a North American tour to promote his debut
record, Early in the Morning. It’s a collection of simple but captivating acoustic songs that are sometimes dark and foreboding and full of tension, but also pastoral and hopeful. Listening to the album, it’s hard to believe that McMorrow started off as a drummer inspired more by hardcore and hip-hop than folk.
