A solid release with even some U2 “Joshua Tree” era guitar harmonics. Can you pick out the Beatles muddy vocals on a track? There is a happy diversity of styles yet a common feel and high production quality running through the whole. Me thinks the union with one Zooey Deschanel has been happy and added to Mr. Gibbard’s creative ability. This is more than an inexplicable prodigy from the band—they’ve worked hard to get here. Now for a “doe-eyed” progeny, let’s wait and see.
