Best Coast – Entering a Dream State

This music harkens back to 60’s, maybe 50’s girl group bands (think Ronettes and Leslie Gore) and current and/or retro sounds from Neko Case to She & Him.  While I grew up in Southern California in a beach community, I did not see the Woodys with surf boards atop, but I did experience a vibe that was almost competitive in its ability to chill out and  occasionally slumber under the hot overcast skies of mostly pristine beaches with the occasional flotsam and jetsam of tar balls and man-o-wars.

The golden era of surf music was dominated by artists like The Beach Boys Jan and Dean, and Dick Dale. In recent years, there’s been a revival of sun-baked rock, and the California duo Best Coast is now at its forefront.
