Carmen Rizzo – Looking Through Leaves

Seeing that I was born in the city previously known as: El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciúncula or The Town of Our Lady the Queen of Angels of the Little Portion, I give musicians and artists of any stripe located or born there, extra lee-way to make a case for their art. Los Angeles was and still is a somewhat crazy and lawless metropolis where having some street smarts and good connections can go a long way; and may save your life.

The music of Carmen Rizzo has excellent production quality and a cool electronic jazz palette.  There is a sweet aural landscape here and it’s refreshing to wade into its crystal streams that gently bathe and cleanse.  I visited the La Brea Tar Pits http://www.tarpits.org/ as a child and greatly feared being drowned in the hot black prehistoric ooze.  I could not fathom then that the opposite would some day exist.  Mr. Rizzo has the smarts and the connections to make this all work somehow.  He has earned my respect and attention.

Carmen Rizzo – This Life f/ Kate Havnevik MP3

The current album Looking Through Leaves (Electrofone 2010) is a dark minimal electronic landscape written in planes, trains & hotel rooms all over the world form Russia, Europe, Canada & America. Guest singers include Grant Lee Phillips, Shana Halligan (Formerly of Bittersweet) Kate Havnevik, Rosey & January Thompson.  With Carmen’s new album, his production values are front and center, proving once again why he’s such an in demand producer, remixer, and artist.
