Yeasayer: Download KEXP Session

It’s always a treat to see familiar faces come in for repeat performances over the course of their careers. We host more than 400 in-studio performances a year at KEXP, and seeing a band come in multiple times with new set lists and more miles and experience under its belt can be an amazing experience. One of many bands we’ve championed from their first demos is Yeasayer.

Yeasayer’s first KEXP performance during CMJ in 2007 was electrifying on the air, as was its debut release. The second time around, a little more than two years later, the New York band has grown and expanded its sound even more. Obliterating the very notion of a softmore slump, Odd Blood incorporates more of what Yeasayer does so well live. Now, at the Cutting Room studio, it was even more confident.

An intoxicating mix of moody rock, upbeat dance music and influences from around the world, this session was one of the best I’ve ever been a part of. Talking to Yeasayer was also a treat. The band was at the very beginning of its now mostly sold-out tour and couldn’t have been funnier or more appreciative of the early airplay, although it recommended the Lil Wayne and Sade albums being released that same day.
