November 11, 2009 – After building on its devout hometown following in Toronto, Great Lake Swimmers has spent the last five years becoming a slow-burning buzz band well outside Canada’s borders. The group has since gone on to open shows for a diverse array of artists, including Abigail Washburn & The Sparrow Quartet, Hayden, Goldfrapp and Feist.
Formed in 2001 by singer-songwriter Tonny Dekker, the band performs songs from its fourth album, Lost Channels, which has been nominated for Contemporary Album of the Year at 2009’s Canadian Folk Music Awards. Dekker fills out the group’s gentle folk-pop sound with Erik Arnesen on banjo and guitar, Bret Higgins on upright bass, Greg Mittson on drums and Miranda Mulholland on violin and background vocals.
