Texas Tea first hit the Brisbane scene in 2005. Sporting a unique sound and a curious blend of live instrumentation, the band’s popularity grew rapidly and they developed a loyal and passionate fan base in their hometown. The debut album, Take A Sip, was released in 2006 and songs from this album took out the Number 1 spot in the 4ZZZ Hot 100 consecutively in 2006 and 2007.
Their second long player ‘The Junkship Recordings’ was released in late 2008 and has met stellar reviews across the country since its release. It was recorded over several late night sessions at Junkship Studios with producer and engineer Jamie Trevaskis.
Texas Tea have been compared to artists such as Gillian Welch, Tom Waits, Neko Case, Carter and Cash and Leonard Cohen and have shared the stage with Ben Kweller (USA), Cold War Kids (USA), Iron and Wine (USA), Justin Townes Earle (USA), Charlie Parr (USA), The Handsome Family (USA), The Mountain Goats (USA), Mick Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything), The Darling Downs (Kim Salmon and Ron Peno), The Devastations and many other fine acts.
‘. . . whereas pale imitators might hint at the sick, sad, demented world that they’re writing about, Texas Tea give that world all the vivid quality of Harry Dean Stanton in Paris, Texas, or a sociopath loitering in the background of a David Lynch film.’
